We all have the power to positively influence the world around us. It can be as simple as a well-timed smile or a kind gesture – like giving up your seat on the subway. Each and every day we encounter situations that offer us the opportunity to become better people.
At BORO Magazine, we strive to turn these opportunities into reality. Our mission is to make a positive difference in the community we serve, and we’ve made an active decision to connect our readers to everything Astoria, Long Island City and Sunnyside have to offer. Whether its unearthing hidden gems about our neighborhoods, highlighting ways to impact the community or inspiring action through ideas and creative thought, we seek to empower our readers to change their lives and the world around them – while having fun in the process!
BORO is completely written, researched, printed and distributed in Astoria, Long Island City and Sunnyside . We support and showcase local writers, editors, publishers and designers, and make every effort to put money back into the area’s economy.
BORO is a highly “green” company. All of our magazines are printed on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) paper with soy ink to minimize the impact we have on the environment.
We also print locally at On Demand Printing in Long Island City – a conscious decision to support the local economy and lower our carbon footprint.
We’re not interested in simply producing content for consumption. Instead, our goal is to build a strong, sustainable relationship with the local community. Doing so requires a proactive and creative spirit, and that’s why we not only cover local news and events but also create initiatives and partnerships that enrich the lives of local residents and businesses. It’s one part education, one part action; we want to ensure our readership is both aware of the great opportunities in our area and motivated to step out and experience them.
BORO is a visible and active participant in the community. Each month, we proudly donate a portion of our revenue to local charities and initiatives – the development of green outdoor spaces and composting efforts – as well as support fund-raising events and create unique community events through offline and online efforts.
